What’s in a picture? Anyone can take a photo, but understanding photography as a powerful tool to communicate can truly change the world.  At the Hart House Camera Club, we believe a solid grounding in photographic techniques is only one part of creating compelling images that communicate volumes.  A subtle medium, photography is endlessly flexible in meeting your needs to create, express, witness, or simply just have some fun.  So, clearly, there’s a lot in a picture and that includes you.

In addition to offering darkroom facilities to develop and process film, HHCC also provides a wide variety of photography courses designed to improve skills and deepen photography as a creative practice. Take a class, improve your skills, discover your talent, and share with other photography lovers.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED for April/May 2017 – Will Be Noted on Co-curricular Record

Attention fellow U of T students/photography lovers!

I am looking for volunteers to assist in the creation and execution of a photography exhibit in downtown Toronto, which will take place at Hart House on June 1st. This will be a community engaged initiative in partnership with Dowling Community Service Residence. The Dowling Residence is a transitional home for men who have experienced mental illness and extreme poverty. The goal of this project is to encourage these men to express themselves artistically through photography.

Options for volunteer roles include:

·       Assisting the residents with taking photographs (3 hours one day in April or May)

·       Helping to print black & white photographs in the darkroom at Hart House and prepare matting for the frames (approx. 3 hours x 2 days)

·       Setting up for and hosting the photography exhibit (3 hours on June 1st)

This will be a fun and interesting project; one that can be included on a CV and will be counted as part of your co-curricular record. If you are interested and would like more information or have further questions, please contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or at 647-978-7512. Thank you very much and I hope to hear from you!

Best,
