DescriptionCome and spend some time with us among the blooming trees as we welcome the wonderful spring weather with photography. We will be meeting at Hart House at 11AM and heading to High Park together.

 

Meeting Place: Outside the darkroom door in the basement of Hart House (across the hall from Sammy’s, the eatery in Hart House)

May 6, 2015: A Critical Salon for Aspiring Photographers

WHAT

Feedback is a key element to the growth of an artist. A screening will be held open to any photographers looking to have their work critiqued by their peers. Bring a selection of your photos ready on a USB stick to be displayed. The number of photos being displayed per person will be dependant on the number of people attending the event.

“The Immaculate Conception”: The Origins of Photography

 Lecture series with Aubie Golombek

WHAT

This short lecture series by Aubie Golombek explores the origins of, and influences on, the birth of Photography; culminating with Nicephore Niepce's hybrid "photographic image” of 1826/7. These lectures will be of interest to anyone interested in Photographic History and/or Theories of Representation. Presented by the Hart House Camera Club.

Topics covered will include:


1) The black mirror of Christianity (St. Paul).

2) Renaissance (early and high) and Mannerist perspective and optics.

3) The late Enlightenment advent of the black mirror and theories of representation/visuality.

4) The French Romantic advent of the black mirror and theories of representation/visuality.

5) Flesh as an emulsion.

6) German Romanticism, blackness, and the specular mirror.

7) Nicephore Niepce's "photographic image" within the embodiment of Romantic Nature.
