Darkroom Days

When: Thursday, January 24, 7-9pm
Where: Hart House Camera Club Darkrooms!

This event is intended for everyone with some darkroom experience to get together, share techniques, gossip about their gear, and, most importantly, print some pictures! We will be setting up the large upstairs darkroom, which has capacity for about 7 people, as well as the individual darkrooms in case of overflow. This is a great opportunity for any film photographer to learn from your peers, and moreover, have a great time in one of our favourite places: the darkroom.

Everyone interested should bring some film, negatives, prints, or any other materials that will go into the creation of your image. We will have stock chemicals available, but the rest is up to you. The bulk of the evening will be devoted to developing, printing, scanning or matting (or all four), but we will also save lots of time for comparing prints, so feel free to bring completed work that you would like to show off.

We hope to see everyone soon!

Christmas Market

We will be going to the Christmas Market in the Distillery District on December 5.

A Thinking Eye: Photography and Incarnation

Artist talk with photographer Aubie Golombek.

Artist talk with Aubie Golombek

When: October 25, 2012 from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Where: Hart House South Dining Room

Aubie Golombek’s A Thinking Eye: Photography and Incarnation explores religious imagery within the presence of secular reality. In the heart of Golombek’s work is  incarnation – the spiritual unfolding  of the physical as becoming. As Jean-Claude Lemagny writes about Golombek’s work, “…life is already there. And not just life as it teems and ferments, biological life, but spiritual life as well. …We have here the most extreme split between the material and the spiritual, yet they are folded together, and they melt together in an impossible effort.” This notion is reinforced by Gaston Bachelard’s idea, “The more solid and positive matter is, the more fertile and subtle is the work of the imagination.”

Golombek employs a sophisticated use of long exposure times and natural and artificial lighting to create his images, using a variety of printing papers, developers, and toners to realize his vision.

Co-presented by the Hart House Camera Club and History of Photographic Materials, a graduate course in the Program Photographic Preservation and Collections Management at Ryerson U, Don Snyder, Professor.
